Poplar Hill Mansion is always looking for new and energetic volunteers to fulfill a wide variety of needs at the Mansion. You can choose which volunteer capacity fits your interests and availability.
Poplar Hill would love to have you come be a Docent at the museum and take guests around the house and describe the different exhibits and present the history of the house. We provide full training for our Docents and it’s a great way to meet new people and share a love for the history of not just the house, but also any other subjects pertaining to the Mansion such as medical history, fashion, decorative arts, and the general history of Salisbury. Mansion volunteers also help with special events throughout the year including the Poplar Hill Mansion Festival, Halloween events, Yuletide Open House, Tea with Santa, and our teas. Don’t really want to work with the public? That’s okay, the Mansion offers several opportunities to work behind the scenes with our Curator to prepare materials for educational programs, exhibits, and help with clerical needs. Are you more of an outdoorsy type of person? The gardens at Poplar Hill always need care and you’ll get to work under the guidance of a Master Gardener to learn about the various types of plants in each of the gardens.
Being a volunteer at Poplar Hill Mansion is a great way to work with the community and preserve a valuable piece of Salisbury history. Volunteering at Poplar Hill is also a great opportunity for students, both at the high school and college levels by earning community service hours, acquiring new skills, gaining experience and developing relationships for future opportunities, or to intern. We have flexible scheduling and will work with your availability.
For more information about volunteer opportunities, email curator@poplarhillmansion.org, or come in for a visit Friday or Sunday from 12:00-4:00.
