Also please note that there are several events throughout the year hosted by other organizations that use Poplar Hill Mansion as their venue, including the Wicomico Woman’s Club (Galentines on Feb 13) and teas by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) on June 20 and the National Society of the Daughters of the War of 1812 (NSUSD1812) on December 5. LECTURE SERIES
The Second Sunday of every month at 2:00. Join our Curator and Corresponding Docent of the DAR Museum in Washington, D.C., Sarah Meyers, as she presents lectures on early American history. Each lecture features a different theme and showcases the history of the United States as told through the collection of the DAR Museum and the collection at PHM. STORYTIME AT THE MANSION
February 14th at 11:00. Bring the kids to Poplar Hill Mansion and join Karen Earp, from the Wicomico County Library, Paul Sarbanes Branch, for Storytime at the Mansion. It’s Valentine’s Day and that is the theme for our story! We’ll be reading stories, singing songs, and we’re making felt woven heart baskets for the children to take with them. Poppy, the Poplar Hill Sheep will be helping too! Free event.
ST. PATRICK’S DAY TEA —– SOLD OUT!!!!
March 12th at 12:00. Come enjoy all things Irish at our St. Patrick’s Day Tea. The menu will consist of Irish inspired recipes including Potato Soup, Cucumber Sandwiches, Irish Egg Salad Sandwiches, Corned Beef & Cabbage Sandwiches, Irish Cheddar & Scallion Scones, Irish Whiskey Cake, Oreo Bailey’s Truffles, Guinness Stout Mini Chocolate Bundt Cakes with Caramel Drizzle, all served with Irish Breakfast Tea. EXHIBIT GRAND OPENING
April 1st at 5:00. Come to Poplar Hill Mansion for the grand opening of our 2026 exhibit to celebrate the Semiquincentennial, Long May It Wave: The Evolution of the American Flag and American Symbolism. The event will include light refreshments and music. Free event.
POPLAR HILL MANSION FESTIVAL: CELEBRATING OVER 200 YEARS OF HISTORY
May 3rd from 12:00-4:00. Come to the award-winning Annual Poplar Hill Mansion Festival as we celebrate the Federal Period history of Salisbury! The day long festival will include War of 1812 re-enactors: Chesapeake Independent Blues, period music, period dancing from the Dover Dancers, educational displays from local nonprofits and historical societies, a children’s activity area with crafts and games, and a May Pole to celebrate May Day. There will also be a Market Square with vendors selling handcrafted items. It’s sure to be a fun filled day! Tours of Poplar Hill Mansion will also be available throughout the day and volunteers will be wearing period dress. This is a FREE event with parking located in the Bethesda Methodist Church parking lot on the corner of Division St. and Isabella St. in the Newtown Neighborhood.
RED, WHITE, & BLUE TEA
May 21st at 12:00. Come join PHM as we continue our celebration of the Semiquincentennial of America. This special tea will feature food with the theme of red, white, and blue including soup, savories, scones, and desserts all served with a special themed tea. Poppy, the Poplar Hill Sheep will be helping too! The best part is that immediately following storytime, we’ll be serving ice cream sundaes with all the toppings! I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream at this FREE event at PHM!
SUMMERWEEN
July 18th at 12:00. A brand new event is coming to Poplar Hill! Can’t wait for Halloween? Come to Poplar Hill Mansion immediately following Storytime for Summerween! Boys and ghouls of all ages can enjoy the spookiness of Halloween in summer. We’ll have our backyard decorated and set up with kid’s pools for all sorts of wet, wacky, and wild games, just look out for our resident skeleton, Bone-a-part, lounging in the water. Enjoy some I-scream on the hot summer day. And, why wait to carve pumpkins, when you can carve watermelons? Plus hear about the haunted history of the museum. It’s the summer event everyone will just be dying to attend! The event is free, but a suggested donation of $5.00 a person is greatly appreciated.
AUTUMN TEA
September 17th at 12:00. Come celebrate the return of crisp autumn days and the smell of pumpkin spice. The menu will feature Butternut Squash Soup, Cucumber Tea Sandwiches, Pork and Mushroom Puff Pastry Swirls, Turkey Arugula Tea Sandwiches, Pear and Toffee Scones with clotted cream and pear preserves, Mini Pumpkin Cheesecake, Apple Butter Thumbprint Cookies, Autumn Harvest Cookies, Maple Bars, and Lady Grey Tea. Bring a friend to what has become our most popular tea of the year! Cost is $25.00 per person. RSVP is required and seating is very limited. This tea tends to sell out quickly. AMERICA250 QUILT SHOW
September 27th from 12:00-4:00. Come see beautiful quilts submitted by local and regional quilters that showcase each of five categories, representing a different American theme. This is a non-juried show and winners in each category and Best in Show are “people’s choice” chosen by votes given at the show by visitors. Anyone is eligible to enter a quilt for the show. For the guidelines and rules of how to enter a quilt and to see the categories please click HERE. Winners will be announced at 3:30 the day of the show and be presented with their ribbons and or prize. You do not need to be present to win. The show is FREE to enter and attend. This is an outdoor quilt show. The rain date is October 4. The Mansion will also be open for tours and have some historic quilts from it’s collection on display.
HALLOWEEN PARTY
October 30th at 7:00. Come to one of our most popular events of the year! Spend Halloween weekend in a real haunted house for a fun filled party at Poplar Hill Mansion! We have our Ghoulish Game Room where you can play BOOllete, Trick or Treat Twenty-one, Wheel of Terror, and Dreadful Drinko to win prizes. Prize for best costume, see the house fully decorated in creepy elegance, dance the night away with Halloween favorites like the limbo, vendors, light refreshments, and storytelling from Andy Nunez, paranormal expert extraordinaire and author of the Ghosts of the Eastern Shore series. We will also have Blackwater Apothecary with us doing bone castings, tarot card readings, selling items from the shop and maybe some other surprises. Suggested donation of $5.00 per person at the door. No RSVP required. Adult audience only, for ages +18 and over. No actual money is exchanged during the games; it is for fun and entertainment purposes only.

Stay afterwards for our Jack O’Lantern Jubilee and make a day out of brining the kids to the FREE events at PHM!
JACK O’ LANTERN JUBILEE
October 31st at 12:00-2:00. Bring the kids to Poplar Hill Mansion to what has become a guest favorite to have fun on Halloween! Join us for our Jack O’ Lantern Jubilee! See the Mansion fully decorated for Halloween! We will have kid’s games with prizes, paint your own pumpkin, kid’s costume parade with prizes for best costumes in three divisions (Newborn-5 year old, 6-10, and 11+), and some other fun surprises. This is a free event. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Hot dog meals will be available for $3.00 and include a hot dog, bag of chips, and can of soda or bottle of water.
YULETIDE OPEN HOUSE
December 6th from 11:00-4:00. Come to Poplar Hill Mansion and get in the holiday spirit as we wrap up our year long celebration of the Semiquincentennial. See the beautiful floral decorations by the Four Seasons Garden Club with the theme this year of The Spirit of America. Visit the second floor to see Christmas trees with over 1500 ornaments and Nutcrackers. Holiday Tea Boxes with Gourmet Tea Pyramid, Scones and Cookies will be available for purchase for $12.00. Admission is free and includes a small cookie bag for each guest.
TEA WITH SANTA AND MRS. CLAUS
December 19th from 12:00-3:00. Why go wait in line at the mall to see Santa, when he will be at Poplar Hill Mansion! Bring your children or grandchildren to have peppermint tea, punch, and assorted sweets and have a visit and picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Photos mailed to your home address. See the house fully decorated for the Holiday Season. Cost: $5.00 per mailing address.
